Yesterday, before the votes were tallied, I was speaking with a fellow employee. She is vocally liberal and offered me some advice on how to deal with the forthcoming Obama victory. She said that in 2004 when Bush won, she was consoled by the fact that he would mess up big time and make it easier to get het guy in in 2008. I was truly shocked that someone would hope that a U.S. President would fail all for the sake of a future political victory. I do not agree with hardly any of Barak Obama's positions, but I do not want him to fail. I hope that he governs more in the style of his campaign promises(center) instead of his voting history(very left). I do wish we had a conservative President elect because I believe conservative polices are best for our country. I did not vote for Barak Obama, but I am praying for him and for God to use him to guide our nation where God desires it to go. After all, God used Cyrus to rebuild Jerusalem.

Don't demonize your coworker too badly. Power corrupts predictably. When one party takes control of congress and the White House, it tends to over-reach. Clinton and W. Bush did it when they had majorities. They moderated their reigns only after appropriate chastisement at the polls (when the opposing party took over congress). IMHO, If W had governed they first six years the way he has the last two, the damage would have been much less.

I am demonizing her, in fact I am now praying for her. We have had several very civilized political discussions even though the two of us could not be farther apart in political philosophy. I guess that is why I was so stunned by her "advice". We agree on many of the nation's problems, but we disagree on the solutions, particularly wheter the federal government should be involved. I think I am more affected by what she said than by the fact that Obama won.
