When we are growing up, we have certain perceptions of reality. As we grow older, we learn that some of the things we may have been taught to believe are really not true...whether it is Santa Claus, or the tooth fairy, etc. But lately, I find I have held so many incorrect perceptions..Deep down I knew that my perceptions were wrong, but, as time has progressed, the realities of these perceptions have solidified: 1. The main stream media...I used to look up to, I thought they were professionals dedicated to objective reporting and upholding integrity in the field of journalism...I was wrong... 2. Congress...I thought they were noble and highly intelligent, always seeking to better the country..I was wrong... 3. People are generally good...I was wrong...we all are sinners and have a wicked heart.... 4. Things will get better...while certain things may improve..medicine, etc., the Bible is clear..things will continue to melt down..until Christ returns...regardless of what the politicians say, things will only continue to worsen... 5. Somehow, being a follower of Christ would shield me from the problems of life...I was wrong..I am subject to all the effects of a fallen world...and fallen nature... 6. Sermons are 100% true...I was wrong...Preachers are not perfect people...sometimes, they preach wrong things, falsehoods, just because some famous preacher says something, does not mean it is true, preachers are fallible, just like the rest of us... 7. I would be able to figure God out...I was wrong. While the Bible does help me to understand Him to a certain degree, I find a big degree of disconnectedness...wondering about so many things, so many questions unanswered.... 8. All Christians love each other...I was wrong. On only a few instances have I witnessed the love that the Bible talks about. I admit, I too do not display the love I am supposed to... 9. On a positive note, the Bible is true...in this world of lies..the Bible stands tall as a beacon of pure truth. I can only reach out, and hold onto Christ, He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He is the Truth. Thank you for allowing me vent a bit... C

Please feel free to vent ... you'll find many agree with you. For example, I personally have been at times very disappointed by the behaviour of certain "Christians". Enough said ...

ORIGINAL: Concerto When we are growing up, we have certain perceptions of reality. When I was a youngster I assumed that the adults were in control, I assumed that they knew what they were doing, I assumed that we could rest in that assuredness. As we grow older, I think the most shocking reality one learns about this whole world system of things, is that nobody truly knows what they are doing...we're all just flying by the seat of our pants. Peace

The only Christian by whose behaviour I am very disappointed is my own. Every other Christian's behaviour is not my concern, but their's and God's. Mine causes me more than enough anguish, disappointment etc. - so who am I to judge someone else for theirs?

that was a nice list, nice outline, well put. It all worked a little different for me, but I can relate. it is amazing how people soooooooo need to believe in something, how willing they are to look right past the truth and hang on to something for identity's sake. Swimming in dee Nile to hang on to some small meaning of existence, some need of equilibrium for sanity. How do we perceive the truth, what do we do with it? If we can't do anything about it, what does it do to us?

When we are growing up, we have certain perceptions of reality. As we grow older, we learn that some of the things we may have been taught to believe are really not true...whether it is Santa Claus, or the tooth fairy, etc. But lately, I find I have held so many incorrect perceptions..Deep down I knew that my perceptions were wrong, but, as time has progressed, the realities of these perceptions have solidified: 1. The main stream media...I used to look up to, I thought they were professionals dedicated to objective reporting and upholding integrity in the field of journalism...I was wrong... Know the feeling Concerto. Have experienced this first-hand and know they like to mix an element of truth with exageration. The complete truth isn't exciting enough to sell papers and they don't care whose lives they destroy in the process. 2. Congress...I thought they were noble and highly intelligent, always seeking to better the country..I was wrong... I don't need to add anything much to this...... 3. People are generally good...I was wrong...we all are sinners and have a wicked heart.... Thankfully there IS hope in God. 4. Things will get better...while certain things may improve..medicine, etc., the Bible is clear..things will continue to melt down..until Christ returns...regardless of what the politicians say, things will only continue to worsen... Reminds me of the Bible where it says that people will declare "Peace" but the Bible says otherwise, i.e. "Peace, peace where there is no peace!" 5. Somehow, being a follower of Christ would shield me from the problems of life...I was wrong..I am subject to all the effects of a fallen world...and fallen nature... God doesn't promise us an easy ride but He does promise grace for the moment. 6. Sermons are 100% true...I was wrong...Preachers are not perfect people...sometimes, they preach wrong things, falsehoods, just because some famous preacher says something, does not mean it is true, preachers are fallible, just like the rest of us... That's why we need to study to show ourselves approved unto God and test what we hear / read by His Word. 7. I would be able to figure God out...I was wrong. While the Bible does help me to understand Him to a certain degree, I find a big degree of disconnectedness...wondering about so many things, so many questions unanswered.... Some things are not meant to be understood. That is the point of faith. 8. All Christians love each other...I was wrong. On only a few instances have I witnessed the love that the Bible talks about. I admit, I too do not display the love I am supposed to... Mushy feelings towards my brethren - definately No! Some I could happily strangle sometimes although I do not allow myself to dwell on such 'feelings'; however, do I pray and forgive those who do me harm? Yes and this is faith in God's Word where it teaches me how to love them. 9. On a positive note, the Bible is true...in this world of lies..the Bible stands tall as a beacon of pure truth. I can only reach out, and hold onto Christ, He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He is the Truth. AMEN Thank you for allowing me vent a bit...

Manda, Judging from what I've read in your posts you have nothing to be disappointed about. You've always given good, relevant, Christian advice. The people I was thinking of are "Christians" who wronged me. URForgiven, Someone once said: When I was 13 I thought my father was totally dumb; when I became 16 I was surprised at how much he'd learnt in three years. (I'm paraphrasing - can't find original quote or who said it.
