Hello, I am looking for scripture stating how we should address God in prayer. I know the Lord's prayer is given as a example, yet, others say: He is your friend, you can just talk to Him like a friend:
Hey God, It's me. Thanks for a good day, I am sorry I did ....please forgive me, having trouble with...today.
Personally, I prefer to use a little more reverance but, I think God is probably just happy we are talking to Him.
IDK, what do you guys think?

I believe that the Bible tells us to address God as " Our Father " as we pray ( Matt. 6:9 ) ... how do we adress our Father ? With respect and reverence yet with closeness that a relationship has ... hope I helped

Yeah, definitely. I agree.
You need to always respect God. Don't be like, "What up, home dog? What's crack-a-lackin?"
Show respect. Afterall, he IS a holy Father.
But don't be a different person as well. Be yourself with God. Don't be like, "I had a good day today," when in reality you didn't. Be honest with God. He's there with you and He would love for you just to be honest with him, whatever the circumstance. Talk to him like He's one of your very good friends...but with respect. He deserves it.

A child told me once to address God as "Harold".
I was puzzled and asked him why.
He said that Jesus said so: "Our Father, who art in Heaven, Harold be thy name ..."

I offer this excerpt from the 17th priest, scholar and mystic, F. Fenlon:
PRAYER—THE SECRET OF POWER-"Tell God all that is in your heart, as one unloads one’s heart, its pleasures and its pains, to a dear friend. Tell Him your troubles, that He may comfort you; tell Him your joys, that He may sober them; tell Him your longings, that He may purify them; tell him your dislikes, that he may help you to conquer them; talk to Him of your temptations, that He may shield you from them; show Him the wounds of your heart, that He may heal them; lay bare your indifference to good, your depraved taste for evil, your instability. Tell Him self-love makes you unjust to others, how vanity temps you to be insincere, how pride disguises you to yourself as to others.
If you thus pour out all of your weaknesses, needs and troubles there will be no lack of what you say. You will never exhaust the subject. It is continually being renewed. People who have no secrets from each other never want for subjects of conversation. They do not weigh their words; for there is nothing to be held back; neither do they seek for something to say. I would normally start my prayer with 'Heavenly Father...'
Sometimes though, its, 'Abba Father' which is more akin to 'Daddy'

I notice more people praying/addressing prayers to Jesus. I was always taught and believe that Scripture teaches that we pray to the Father, in the name of Jesus.
I'd be interested in opinions on that. Is it just semantics or should we wonder if those who pray to Jesus understand the concept of Trinity.

I pray to the Father in the name of and through His Son, Jesus Christ.
I have heard people pray in groups and they say "Father God" after and before every sentence, and sometimes even in the middle of a sentence. I thought that was strange. Anyone know where that came from?

I usually address God as Father. However, based on Romans you might, at times, call him Daddy. It may be influenced by why you are praying; want something, for someone else or just to "hang out" with Him.

I address God as Daddy, as He is my Heavenly Daddy!!! :-D

I am thrilled that I have been invited to address God as intimately as this, but I must admit that I am more comfortable with "Father." I don't call my earthly father "Daddy." I know, however that our Heavenly Father knows each of us more intimately than our earthly Father ever could and what a privelege to be invited to approach the throne of God with confidence and be allowed to be so familiar with the Creator! Isn't that something?
I think you should address Him as you feel led, but also with reverence-- not the kind born of fear or guilt, but the kind born of the knowlege of Whom you are addressing.

It's interesting the English uses "Abba" only three times, Mark 14:36, Romans 8:15 and Galatians 4:6 and all three are used in the same context, oppression probably demonic. That being the case, "Abba! Father" probably is a sign of desperation and resignation rather then intimacy and warmth.

I say Daddy because i know He created me, He gave me life, i'm his child. I love my parents but they were used to put me on earth. He allowed me to be born. He loves me dearly and me too. So i usually say Daddy.

If that is the case then if you are desperate or being attacked by the enemy, then call on God asAbba Father, as that is what Paul suggested.

Well, we have been given an Advocate with the Father and His name is Jesus...and so I pray to the Father in the name of Jesus.
John 15:16
"You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you."
John 16:23-24
"And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you. Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full."
Those are two of my favorites, but there are many, many scriptures that address prayer and it's appropriateness. I believe that our Father hears us no matter how we come to Him...Sometimes our prayers may not be extravagant, reverent, holy, gentle, etc...I believe God knows our hearts and so the best way to go to Him in prayer is to be REAL!
The Word says that before we call He answers...

Personally, I just say, "Dear God." Don't know why. That's just what I do.
I honestly don't know what scripture says about it. But IMHO, I can't imagine that God gets too hung up on how we address Him...within reason, of course. I think He just wants to have a relationship with us.

In the Cherokee language there are nearly twenty different names for the Creator ranging from Creator to The Giver to The One Above to His personal name Yowa.
When praying, I was taught to keep it short and to-the-point. Native people don't do long prayers. Personally, I don't ask Him for piddly stuff I ought to be able to take care of myself and I don't ask for more than what is absolutely necessary to provide for our basic needs.
Most of the time I just talk to Him. I thank Him for the breeze when I'm working outside, I thank Him for the rain, forthe sunrise and sunset, for the singing of the birds, for some lesson I finally figured out...pretty much all of creation. I talk out this or that issue I'm dealing with, or my concerns about this or that person and something they're going through. Conversations with Creator are cathartic, enlightening, and fun. When you talk to God like that,you tend to remember that He is always right there with you, which aids in remembering to act like you are in His presence at all times as well as realizing that regardless of what's going on you're not alone.
