I have a question for you all...
We recently had family pictures taken with my husband's family. My mother in law works with a lady whose daughter is an amatuer photographer. She doesn't do it for a living, but would like to someday. We went to her place of choice (outside) and she took various shots for about 1/2 hr. -45 min. When my mother in law asked how much she owed her, she told her to just pay whatever we thought was best! Frustrating!!
So, my question is this, what would you think was a good price? She did a great job, etc. Absolutely no complaints!

$100. We recently hired a professional photographer to take pictures of our house so we could put in on the market. His fee is $200 an hour.

Being that she is not yet a professional and it took them in under an hour, I think that would be fair.

The last family portraits we had done cost me $1500 for the package. I got a LOT, including a ginormous portrait to put over the fireplace - I'm thinking it's like 2'x3'. I don't know if that helps much. I do hate the "pay whatever you think it's worth" reply.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that we didn't get any photos professionally printed. Our photographer just gave us the digitals to work with on our own. I think a printed package would have been quite a bit more.

Do you have the rights to the photos, as in, can you reprint them on your own terms? If so, I'd pay a couple hundred. Something like that from a pro would cost several hundred. Most of the time they retain the rights and you have to get prints from them.

If she's keeping the rights herself, then I'd offer $100 or so.

$100 - $150 - $200 (depending on your means and her expectations) .... you don't want to take advantage of her, but she also has chosen to let you set the price.
