My sister in Law, is a sweet, sweet, person. She is a parnoid scizoprenic (sp) I will look up spelling (lol). She has also fried her mind with drug abuse. I noticed a few weeks ago, her face was sunken in, and she had gotten very thin. She started becoming withdrawn from me and family, and becoming catatonic (sp) according to my brother. And everything to do with God, told her this or that, moving everything in her house to face the east or west. God told her she coulod not eat chips, on and on. She went to ER, cussed people and such, took off. She became very sick with a staff infection they think from meth use, but, none was shown in the blood test. Then the most terrible thing is she scalped herself. saying God told her to pull out all of her hair. I cried, and cried, she pulled all her hair out at once, Her long black, beautiful hair. She kept it, in a big wad like a brillo pad. She was released from the mental hospital once, but, called the police last Sat. and said she had molested my youngest daughter when she was younger. This is not true, but anyway is in the hospital again. I have seen alot of things, but never anyone pull out thier hair all at once. Do you think she needs a deliverence? I am not saying all mental illness is related to satan, or seziures or things like that. This just seemed so bizzare pulling all the hair out. Thoughts?

Wow, Lightshineon, this must be so hard to watch. I'm sorry your SIL is having such a horrific time, and it's breaking your hearts to watch her.
I'm not professionally competent to judge schizophrenia, and demonic problems can take all kinds of shapes, so we're stuck knowing there's something terribly wrong but without much of a clue what to do about it. What we do know is that Satan is a liar and a murderer, so figure he's got a hand in there somewhere with her lack of reality (that's the lie part) and self-destructiveness (that's the murder part) as she tries to make her life make sense. Since she's a risk to herself, professional management is called for, but pray like crazy for the spiritual part; it might be the key to all of her healing.
Your SIL seems very in tune with wanting to please God; I'd take that as a hopeful sign. Can you slowly start teaching her biblical principles so she can sort her head out in time?
Tonight I add my prayers to yours for her deliverance. May God be merciful.

This is all the devil and yes she needs deliverance!! What do you mean she said, "God told her too?" So, she is hearing voices?
She is in my prayers.

I don't think any of us are qualified to be able to say that. I for one certainly do not believe all mental illness is demonic, it can be down to a chemical imbalance, for example.

It could be that she was herself molested as a child, and dealt with it by thinking it was happening to someone else. She needs a lot of help and IMO hospital is the best place for her right now.

Thank you all. I know people with this illness hear voices, see things, and such. The scalping of herself was a little over the edge. She sees God's wrath, not his love. One funny thing happened ( sort of) she went to the pastors house for Wed, Bible study. We were doing the series " FireProof" She out of the blue pipes in " I love my husband )She said his full name because when we were dating he never tried to have relations with me; eventhough, I was under the influence and he could have many times." My husband said he could hear crickets chirping. No one knew what to say, They said " Thats good". Hey sometimes you have to laugh, not at the person, but at uncomfortable situations. Thaks for prayers.

I do not either manda. dealing with her for seven years, and seeing her very ill, though I have never seen hers self-mutilate. I never seen a pesron do this. I have seen skin picking cutting ect...., but not this. yes very smart manda, she claims to have been molested. AbbyGrace thanks for prayers she needs them so badly.

Yes, I have heard of this, but is it not a gradual thing? have you heard of someone doing it all at one time, or scalping theirselves? That is what concerns me. It is just horrific, I cry everytime I see her, though not in front of her. I just feel such compassion and love for her.

As sinners, esp. before we were saved; we all need deliverance of some kind since we live a fallen world, be it mental illness, bondage to something like drugs or alcohol and any other addictions.

This, like all mental illness, has nothing to do with Satan. It is purely the result of brain pathology (and possibly drub abuse).

Hi lightshineon!
Well to begin with - I am of the mind set that all mental illnesses are not cause by demons, and all demonic possessions aren't related to mental illness.
It takes people who are a lot smarter/wiser than us to distinguish them from each other, amen?
But from what I have learned not only from Psychology, but also from personal experience - a chemical imbalance can cause a wide variety of mental illnesses. Anything from; phobia's, paranioa, schizophrenia, depression, anxiety, seizure disorders, bi-polar, and on and on. Some people are even born with an undeveloped brain, and or a defective gene that, unlike chemical imbalances - can cause a wide variety of brain disorders as well.
And these disorders can either be acute or chronic, and in there severity.
Drug addiction - depending on severity, has been known to cause some mental illnesses in some, if not most abusers. Most of them are more the depressive/anxiety, paranoia types (and a few others) and are not in themselves severe enough to be chronic (life-long) conditions. Although some may experience some type of mental illness for short periods of time during the rest of their life.
And not all chemical imbalances are caused by drug use. They can be caused by simply not getting enough sleep/eat/hydration, enviromental, social, and or other factors unrelated to drug abuse/brain developement.
OK - that's enough of Psy 101 for now. (lol)
Personally, I am a 17 yr recovering borderline sever alcoholic. And I too, have occassional bouts w/ depression/anxiety. Cuased by - you guessed it - a chemical imbalance. Granted it isn't as bad as some, but it is bad enough!
Now then;
Playing devils advocate - she is at least 1/2 to blame for her unfortunate condition.
Oh, I can just hear ol' beelzebub now, enticing your SIL when she first started to abuse drugs!
Us abusers have all heard his smooth talking about how much better life would be if we just try it. And we would be at least a bit more popular (or likeable). And how just using it once in a while won't hurt us, nor anyone we know. And we'll notice our problems just seem to vanish when we are high.
'N Lord knows, if given more time to remember all his slick talk - I could probably make this a lllloooooo-oong post. But I'll avoid the temptation.

A common symptom of schizophrenia. "God", is just one of the voices associated with it, there are others.

Not neccessarily. Although some mental illnesses can take years to develope, unlike your SIL - some can come on awfully darn fast. There is no proper criteria in the Psy field for a proper time frame from the onset to whatever severity of the mental illness. Like I said - some can take years to develope, while some may come on very rapidly. Same for cutting/scalping.
Will keep you and your family in my prayers, especially your SIL.
