In many Asian owned restaurants there are statues of Buddha. the owners are known Buddhists.

Should we give them our money? Is their Idol they display in the eatery a sign we should leave?

I love habachi steak , shrimp, and scallops. Do I have to give it up?

I don't see why. You can very easily make it known that you don't believe in those things. I do. And the places I visit still have respect for me even though I don't believe as they do.

Steak is fine - crustaceans however are unclean foods and are to be avoided. Let's not even discuss the pork dishes.

It's ok BT. You can eat the pork dishes. I know of no where in the Bible where it is stated cats and dogs are unclean. (is it really pork?)

Check out what Aaron Wilburn had to say about that.

But he is talking about Chineese food. Although there is not much difference.

I guess that you cannot eat in any non-christian restaurant? Can you buy groceries from a non-christian store? Electricity from a non-christian utility?

I guess that you could join your local Mennonite or Amish community.

That settles it. I'm moving to Pennsylvania. It raises another issue though - would my horse need to eat kosher oats?

Serious answer: It's a matter of conscience. I'm too lazy to look it up, but I think it's Romans 14 about eating meat sacrificed to idols. In other words, if it bothers you and you think it's a sin, don't do it. If you can go there and eat with gratitude to God and in faith, then go.

Loosening up: y'all are a hoot!

1Cr 8:7 However not all men have this knowledge; but some, being accustomed to the idol until now, eat {food} as if it were sacrificed to an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.
1Cr 8:8 But food will not commend us to God; we are neither the worse if we do not eat, nor the better if we do eat.
1Cr 8:9 But take care that this liberty of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak.
1Cr 8:10 For if someone sees you, who have knowledge, dining in an idol's temple, will not his conscience, if he is weak, be strengthened to eat things sacrificed to idols?
1Cr 8:11 For through your knowledge he who is weak is ruined, the brother for whose sake Christ died.
1Cr 8:12 And so, by sinning against the brethren and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ.
1Cr 8:13 Therefore, if food causes my brother to stumble, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause my brother to stumble.

1Cr 10:25 Eat anything that is sold in the meat market without asking questions for conscience' sake;
1Cr 10:27 If one of the unbelievers invites you and you want to go, eat anything that is set before you without asking questions for conscience' sake.
1Cr 10:28 But if anyone says to you, "This is meat sacrificed to idols," do not eat {it,} for the sake of the one who informed {you,} and for conscience' sake;
1Cr 10:31 Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God

Looks to me like, you can enjoy your Asian food without guilt! it's one of my very favorites!!!!!

Unless I felt oppression or discomfort I would continue to share and enjoy. Patronizing only Christian 'business' hampers one's influence in the community. I try to 'spread the wealth' thus my influence.

If your horse feels guilty for eating his hay, he's got some sort of weird complex and should see an equine psychotherapist ASAP.

I surely hope you are not serious.

There are many Buddiist who are not Asians. And many Asians who are Christian.

It would be like saying I could not speak Hawaiian. Until the Missionaries came they were Pagans and the honored many gods, But I live in Hawaii and there are many streets and places in the Hawaiian language.

I think the OP was refering specifically to those that have the Buddahist (sp?) altars there. Funny, I was just thinking about this. DH and I went to our favorite Thai place last week and I noticed a couple of "altars" set up in the place. Then I remembered the passage posted above about it being a matter of conscience. I figure if I refuse to eat there, I'm reducing the chances of their getting to here the Gospel!

I eat wherever I like. Whatever the religious beliefs of the owners, I remember that I am a servant of Christ and act accordingly, including leaving a generous tip. Since I usually wear a cross necklace, there is no doubt as to my religious beliefs and I'd liketo think my good behavior reflected favorably upon my faith in the eyes of the proprietors as well as my fellow patrons.

Well, on second thought, wearing a cross may not verify my beliefs since so many gansta-rappers seem to wear them as well.
