The commercials for this shot are really aimed at teens and young women. Please vote on whether or not you would get this shot and if you would have your daughter (or possible future daughter or female loved ones) get this shot and why you feel the way you do. What are the short and long term effects and side effects?

I don't plan to and don't plan on getting them for my DD's. I asked about it and she said it's only recommended for people under 30 or something like that. Anyway I'm too old to 'need' it. Also, I don't participate in behaviors that require it. As for my DD's I plan to raise them up to understand why sex outside of marriage is wrong both from a Biblical viewpoint and from a practical view point so they won't need it either. I'm not naive enough to think that they will never have sex just because I tell them not to but I'm not jaded enough to assume they will either. If they do choose to be promiscuos (sp?) then that is a price they may have to pay. I don't believe in removing all the negative physical consequences from participating in sinful behavior so that if you choose to sin there are no physical consequences. If they or I are raped well then I would just pray that God would protect them from contracting anything. In both cases I think the emotional and spiritual consequences of the sin will be worse than physical consequences.

Zoe- I voted no for myself and for my dd for very much the same reasons you did. quote:

If it was on the market longer and they had a lot more tests on it and they knew it wasn't harmful in the long run, then I would probably get it for my daughter if I had a daughter. I can't get the shot because it came out just after I already contracted HPV. I got it from my husband who had prior girlfriends. I really think they need to change the ads though, they make it seem like they found a cure for cervical cancer. They should just put it plainly "This is vaccine for genital warts or Human Papiloma Virus."

Two of my daughters have had HPV with both of them having a colposcopy and one needing a biopsy due to it. (An amazing story of God healing. DDs' report showed cancer on her cervix, surgery was scheduled and our church laid hands on her. The morning of the surgery, I talked with the dr and told her, "You aren't going to find anything, God has healed her". She just gave me one of those "Ok honey" smiles, told me she saw the lesions, the tests confirmed it as cancer. I told her I'm sure you saw it, I'm sure the tests confirmed it, BUT you won't find it when you go in there. She went into the surgery with the intent on removing part of my daughters cervix and came out within 20 minutes to inform me that "I don't know how, but the lesions are gone. Her cervix is completely healthy." I just smiled at her. ) Our doctor recommended the shot(s) for the younger daughters, but we have decided not to have them.

The argument I have been given is that if your daughter remains pure, but falls in love with someone who is saved now, but engaged in risky behavior before that, she would be exposed. And, I'm hearing noise about boys getting the shot as well. Same reason. Stop the spread. The commericals bug me because they don't specify that the immunization only protects against certain viruses and that you can still develop cancer from other causes. But we are undecided. I keep expecting it to be a law for college when she gets there. (like menengitis)

I'm wondering how long it will be for the lawyer ads to come out saying "If you or a loved on has gotten seriously ill, suffered infertility problems or died from this vaccine...." What really gets to me is how this is also pushed in doctor's offices. When my 15 yo dd went in for her last physical (about eight months ago) three members of the medical staff tried to encourage me to let them give her the vaccine. My niece just turned 11. Sis took her for a physical last week. They tried to push it on her and my niece isn't even menstruating yet!

Just simply asking once and giving out a paper on it would be sufficient.

Because my daughter is still unborn, I voted yes I would get her the shot, but ONLY under the understanding that (by the time she's old enough) a good 12 years would've passed, and the vaccine has stood the test of time, so to speak. If it was right here and now? No, I don't think I or my daughter would get it.

ORIGINAL: christsstar We vaccinate against so much these days, all we're doing is creating stronger viruses and weaker immune systems. Actually, vaccines make our immune system stronger, not weaker. They deliberately give our immune system a work out so that the system is prepared when it encounters the real deal. I understand some choose to delay or abstain for various reasons, but vaccines are not making us weaker by any definition. What does weaken our immune system is anti-bacterial everything. We kill off all the germs that could possibly come into contact with our kids, and their systems have nothing to fight, nothing to practice on, so our kids get more and more allergies because the immune systems have no relatively harmless germs to work on. The more we sanitize our kids, the more dangerous their world becomes.

Thanks Zoe. I see that now and I still agree. I have heard the arguement of what if the girl's future husband isn't honest with her about his past. (Or what if she's not sure he's been honest.) To that I say that trust issues need to be worked on before the marriage can take place.

So, if a young woman was close to that age and not engaged, she might want to go ahead and get the vaccine. It's not yet an issue for pre-teen and young teen girls, but for some young women, time is a factor.

To that I say that trust issues need to be worked on before the marriage can take place. My concern would be that some men who have had only one or two partners and are in a very legalistic environment might be hesitant to admit their sexual past, or if they have had no symptoms and used safer sex practices they might assume they don't need to talk about that "just one time". Since, unlike HIV or other STD's, there is currently no reliable HPV test for men, there is no way to "trust but verify."

moon_mouse- if the woman is not sexually active, would you still think that she should consider the vaccine?

Currently I've heard some stuff about the shot that worries me. For now, I'm going to say no. If they manage to make it safe enough, I might consider it. We have a long time to think about it. *shrug*

Absolutely not. No way, not in me or my daughter. There are some very, very concerning things including the possible nurological side effects and even death that have been reported in women shortly after they receive the vaccine. HERE is a bit about it, and the Judicial Watch research is also in there. I have HPV, I have had pre-cancerous cells along with several biopsies and a colposcopy. The key to surviving cervical cancer is early detection, we won't be vaccinating any children against HPV in the future but we will teach them about proper care of their bodies which includes regular female exams.

Yes. If I was still in my 20s I would get the vaccine. If I had a daughter, she would get the vaccine. Getting a vaccine does not mean you expect promiscuity. It means that there is an epidemic. Every woman is at risk. Even women who do not engage in risky behavior. A new husband could have contracted HPV from one sexual encounter prior to marriage. It doesn't even have to be intercourse. Anyone can be raped. Why add HPV and the potential for cervical cancer to the aftermath?
