What are your thoughts on the movie Fight Club? I was 15 when I first saw it... and I was going to get the blu-ray for my cousin, who is 15, for Christmas this year.

I enjoyed it quite a bit. I certainly didn't agree with everything that it teaches, but I think it does make a lot of good points about the evils of materialism and our modern Western culture. That, and the acting/writing are just wonderful.

while i love the movie, i'm not sure it's appropriate for a 15-year old...the violence, sexuality and new age mysticism might be a bit above him (after all, they are above a lot of adults)

Sloppy film making and it really needed a more talented editor. And the ending was weak, in my opinion. But in spite of it's flaws I still liked it quite a bit.

As a parent I'd appreciate it if someone checked with me before giving my 15 year old a rated R movie or the vast majority of teen oriented pg-13s for that matter. Not saying there would be a blanket ban but it is something I'd like a heads up about. Kris

Helena Bonham Carter was delightful. Best thing about the movie, really.

I doubt that a 15 year old could really appreciate many of the ideas behind the film anyway, and I don't think it's appropriate material for someone that age.

I just re-watched it a few days ago and thought that while it had some interesting points about having passion for living by having a cause worth dying for I found it completely messed up. The main guy was a nut case and the film projectionist must have gotten a hold of this film (last ~30 second of the movie, do not pause, you will not like what you see!) On the whole I have seen better movies.

I have to say, I didn't care for Fight Club. It was both engaging and stylishly shot, but the grounding principles behind the film's ethic were abhorrent. The glorification of nihilism and anarchy was extremely disturbing and shouldn't be supported by Christians. It's one thing to portray "bad" violence, or disturbing and evil ideas and worldviews, it's quite another to revel in them - as this movie does.

As an angry young man at the time fed-up with sociey and working temp jobs in DC, I considered the movie genius. I'm not an unpleasant person but part of me would like to see gangs of anarchist philosophers causing havoc. I guess the only thing is it would be better if people saw their own useless activities as the cause of our slow descent instead of having an obvious scapegoat to blame it on.
