My cousin and I went out to lunch today. While we were waiting for our food to arrive, she brought up the subject of Prop 8 the same-sex marriage law and how it's 'wrong' to discriminate. She told me about how her husband was for the ban, while she's against it. I let her voice her opinion and I stayed quiet....until she compared the issue to the civil rights movement of the 1960's and how 'we' should be more understanding to what 'they're' going through. (she's Greek, her husband is black. Hubby is actually my blood cousin). I cut her off and explained that as Christians, same sex marriage is mortally wrong and also what the gays are asking for is no comparison to what the blacks went through. She then says she is a Christian herself. I told her that no true Christian would be for same-sex marriage. The conversation was beginning to turn ugly so we both smiled and agreed to disagreed. But I feel our relationship has changed. I no longer felt comfortable and I wanted to leave. Then she started up a new conversation about how she couldn't conform being a church, following a 'schedule' and why she had to become a member. We had this conversation plenty of times. I am very sadden by what happened today. I don't know if I should bring up how much it's bothering me or pray on it and leave it alone.

I'm sorry to hear that her view on things makes you so uncomfortable you can't even listen to the other side or discuss it. Sorry for you.

Comparing the issue to the civil rights movement of the 1960's is disgusting... They are trying to legitimized sinful behavior by attaching it to something that has true merit. There is nothing worthy homosexuals can bring up on the issue that warrants attention.
