The best one I can think of is Lifetime Medical Television which used to broadcast only classes and stuff from premier medical schools across the US. My favorites included Cardiology update on every Saturday evening. Actual footage of real open heart surgeries, angioplasties, etc. The stuff on Discovery Health does not even come close.

Besides MTV, CMT and the other channels owned by the same company? A&E has some odd choices. I forgot why the scifi channel became SyFy.. and their top show is Ghost Hunters. And I think they have wresting on once a week.

Someone brought up A&E in the Jon and Kate thread. A&E would get my vote for the most departed from the original brand. You wouldn't see them co-produce a "Pride and Prejudice" these days.

Nothing against Dog, but I'd rather watch Darcy and Elizabeth.

TV Land comes to mind. It used to be all old shows that everyone loved but had gone off air. Now it's got reality shows and such and really the only older show they play seems to be The Andy Griffith Show.

TVLand. Ah yes. What happened to all the good shows and variety of them they used to have on there? They've jumped into the reality craze themselves and now for some reason have long daily marathons of Roseanne. Cartoon Network. Seems mostly like it's Dora the Explorer & SpongeBob during the day and Adult Swim shows at night. VH1. They used to have along with vids, celeb-fashion-song themed shows which were kinda fun to watch (I loved 'Pop-up Video'). Now it's mostly, Hey! Let's get a bunch of women and have them argue and compete to win some guy's attention! Ugh. And Sci-Fi channel, now SyFy. I can't help to read that as "Sigh-Fee."

Gospel Music Channel and Country Music Television....both have started showing less music and more shows. I mean, come on GMC, is there really an audience for two freaking hours of SISTER, SISTER every night?

ORIGINAL: SweetLittleErin All the music channels...I rarely see any music on there. Except for MTVU, which is what I watch when I want to see what's new out there in the alternative rock world. I just wish they'd play less rap. But I guess they're trying to cover the entire spectrum, sonce regular MTV only plays videos for a short amount of time each day. quote:
SiFi has wrestling, and all kinds of other junk. Just when I"d pretty much written off ScyFy, it was announced this week that they are working on a US version of the BBC's "Being Human." Now, that's paranormal fantasy, not sci-fi, but at least a nudge in the right direction. SyFY also gets credit in my book for continuing it's Monday night anime block at a time when Cartoon Network has retreated more and more from showing it. And, the anime series SyFy is showing now, "Monster" is a psychological thriller, targeted towards grown-ups, not a show that would be confused with kiddie cartoons. [qoute] Cartoon Network, though we watch it, is far from kids cartoons. Oh, don't get me started. They're producing now what is cheap for them to produce; both on Cartoon Network proper and on Adult Swim.

Spike TV used to be The Nashville Network, then when MTV bought it they made it The National Network, then Spike. I remember when they used to have NASCAR races on there. Now it's stuff like UFC and other junk.

When Spike first began airing, I found myself apologizing to all my female friends for being a man, because their programming was literally lowest comon denominator stuff. Remember STRIPPERELLA? An animated show with Pamela Anderson voicing a character who was a stripper by night and superhero by day? And this was a CARTOON! They're actually kinda tame now, but it is still embarrassing when the wife walks in and I'm watching Spike, even if it is only for a Bond movie or something....

Unbelievable that it ever made it to the air.

A few years ago there was a network called PAX, and it aired new, family friendly programming (Doc, Sue Thomas FBI, and some others). Then it was bought by NBC (I think), and shortly thereafter it was gone. I think I heard the Gospel Channel bought up those shows, but I don't know for sure.

Nick, TVLand, SyFy (although they do still play Twilight Zone at some off-beat hours. Thank you DVR.)

ORIGINAL: country83 Spike TV used to be The Nashville Network, then when MTV bought it they made it The National Network, then Spike. I remember when they used to have NASCAR races on there. Now it's stuff like UFC and other junk. The cousin of a college friend was the head of CBS Charlotte (The Nashville Network had two bases -- Nashville and Charlotte), and MTV junked the entire CBS Charlotte operation. The most infamous incident that MTV did was the 2000 Texas Nationwide race, which MTV decided after a long rain delay should not air. It enraged NASCAR fans and to this day was the last national-level race to not be broadcast. And also they carried live Dove Awards coverage and a variety show. I wonder if Cartoon Network's programming was also part to help Time Warner into the E/I standards by having challenges to get kids into more educational events. Gospel Music Channel -- who has taken ownership? Is it still Charles Humbard? They're acting more MTV-ish with taking out music and adding television reruns. We don't need 300 channels of television reruns -- that's the reason they won't want HD it seems. The plans were live Dove Awards, now with this rerun channel, we don't need that.

How about TechTV, which turned into G4TV. What use to be general technology shows, with a couple shows here and there about video games, became 100% about video games, and lost all sense of talking about any other technology out there. It was a sad, sad day.

Yeah, the whole TechTV/G4 thing...I guess video gamers spend a lot of money, so they get a channel just for them. The only thing I ever watch on that network is the ComicCon coverage.

I would say tv land. once they starting airing reltiy show it went down here shows likee chasing farrie or high shcool ruion. now their newest one the couger. then they had mr t reality show. that was the only reliaty show i liked. then they had myths andledgen which was really good. i liked top ten count downs.now they keep showing moives thats been on other stations for long time. now they show afwul show rosanne. they show it all night longe and then nick at nite still airs it. do we really need roseann ontwo chnannel? .first it was the andy gritth show network then the cobsy network now the roseanne network. i don't like cartoon netork at all. i stop watching it like 10 years ago. i would catch ben 10 or ben 10 alien force. i liked the tranfomers cartoon for a while. then theirsNickelodeon. they used to show mummpet babies, doug and rugrat. now its spone bob squar paints. they keep air it a lot. they seem don't have any good cartoons any more. i used to rember you had to wait until satdays. then when cartoon network first came out i was happy. now i don't brother watching it. i heard they might change the name to the network. i wish i could get bomrange. its from cartoon network they show more older classic.
